The framework identifies strategic circular economy interventions for each stage in the construction value chain, like designing out waste, and facilitating greater reuse of products and materials at the end of each service life. Furthermore, it identifies which construction workers and professionals are needed to implement these such strategies.
Buildings have a significant impact on the environment throughout their lives, from their design to demolition. They are responsible for 40% of final energy consumption, about 50% of all extracted materials and 2.3 billion tons of waste per year in the EU.
